Check the Ceiling
The ceiling may not be the first thing you notice at a venue, but it matters for photography.
A very low ceiling can make the light look harsh. A dark ceiling can also absorb light, making it harder to get soft and natural-looking photos.
Also, be careful with strongly coloured ceilings. Red, gold, or other dark colours can reflect onto faces and change the natural skin tone in photos.
Things to check:
- Is the ceiling high enough?
- Is it light or dark in colour?
- Are there too many strong colours?
- Can your photographer use flash if needed?
Check the Natural Light
Natural light can make your wedding photos look bright and beautiful. Large windows can give soft light, but strong sunlight can create harsh shadows. So, visit the venue at the same time as your wedding to see how the light will look. A hall can look very different in the morning and evening.
Mandapam: The Heart of Your Wedding Ceremony
During a traditional Kerala wedding, family and guests usually sit close to the mandapam. This creates a lovely atmosphere, but it can leave very little space for photographers to move around.
If there is some open space around the mandapam, your photographer can capture the ceremony from different angles.
Before booking, check whether there is enough room for:
- Wide ceremony photos
- Family pictures
- Close-up moments
- Different camera angles
Choose the Perfect Couple Photo Spot
You don’t need a huge garden to take beautiful couple photos.
A clean staircase, garden, corridor, balcony, or even a simple wall can work well.
The important thing is that the spot should be close to the main wedding area. This saves time and allows you to get back to your guests quickly.
Be Careful With Coloured Lights
Many wedding venues use colourful decorative lights and LED screens.
They may look attractive in person, but strong coloured lights can change the colours in your photos. They can make skin tones look too red, blue, green, or yellow.
You don’t have to avoid a venue because of this. Just tell your photography team about the lighting before the wedding so they can plan accordingly.
Check Parking and Access
Thrissur can get busy during the wedding season, especially around popular temple and event areas.
Make sure the venue is easy to reach and has enough parking space. Your photography team also needs enough time to arrive, set up, and capture the bride and groom getting ready.
For outdoor weddings, don’t forget to ask about rain arrangements.
Most importantly, see the backup space yourself instead of simply taking the venue’s word for it.
Visit the Venue Before You Book
“Can we visit the venue at the same time as our wedding?” This helps you see the actual lighting and overall look of the venue. A hall can look very different at 11 AM and 7 PM, so visiting at the right time gives you a better idea of how your wedding photos will look.
