Imagine a whole day or a weekend’s trip that has everything you wish for – adventure, fun, frolic, scenic views, fantastic food, a healing center, helicopter joy rides and much more. You will agree that this is certainly one of the best adventure holiday destinations you have come across in India.
The Jatayu Adventure Centre, located at the Jatayu Earth’s Centre, is a spellbinding holiday destination combining artistry, mythology, technology, leisure, and adventure. The Centre is located at Chadayamangalam, about 50 km from Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala State in South India.
The Centre is located on a hillock believed to be the last resting place of the mythical bird eulogized in the Ramayana, the epic sacred to Hinduism. Jatayu is visualized as a huge eagle like creature who befriended Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmana while they were in exile, far from their kingdom of Ayodhya.
When Jatayu came to know that Ravana, the lord of Lanka was abducting Sitadevi, it tried to intervene and prevent the immensely powerful Ravana from doing so, with just its beaks and talons. In the tussle, Ravana cut off one of Jatayu’s wings with his sword and it hurled to the ground to death. Thus Jatayu sacrificed its life out of loyalty, love and affection to the Lord and Sita Mata. The location where Jatayu fell is believed to be “Jatayupara” (literally, the rock on to which Jatayu fell) where the centre is now established.
The Jatayu Earth’s Centre is set among rocky mountainous property spread over 20 acres. The project was constructed in all its majesty under the supervision of renowned sculptor and movie-director Rajiv Anchal. The highlight of the Centre is the massive 200 ft long, 70 ft wide sculpture of the mythical bird of the Ramayana – Jatayu. This sculpture is also the world’s largest bird sculpture.
The Jatayu Adventure Centre at the Jatayu Earth’s Centre is now open for group bookings. It is perfect for team-building workshops and stress busting holidaying for the young and adventurous corporate executives, stock-brokers, advertising professionals and all who love to have a great time.
