Kochi is a beautiful city in the southwestern Indian state of Kerala, which is popular with both tourists and business visitors. Tourists are drawn to this city and the surrounding area due to its mix of jcity and beach scenery; similar to Goa but with less foreign visitors. In addition, the state of Kerala has one of the strongest economies in India, so cities such as Kochi are popular with businesspeople.

Whatever brings you to Kochi, it is well worth spending a few days exploring the city. Not only is the environment around Kochi very beautiful, but there is also a lot to do and see within the city itself.

One of the best things to do in Kochi is to visit a fishing village and see the Chinese fishing nets (named after the fishing technique which was brought to India by the Chinese). Many providers will help to organize a trip from Fort Cochin (Kochi) to one of the many picturesque fishing villages, to learn about life for many residents of the city.

There are many other tourist attractions around Fort Kochi which are well worth visiting as well. One of the most famous is Mattencherry Palace, a photogenic and expansive structure. There is also a pier, with various markets and stalls where you can buy clothing, homewares and various other things, along with food such as fresh fish and seafood.

Close by to the Pier is the Dutch Cemetery and St Francis’ Church. The Church has an interesting history, being the oldest European church in all of India and temporary resting place of Portuguese explorer Vasco de Gama who was buried here for 14 years before being exhumed and sent back to Portugal! Also close by is the Jewish quarter, which sells both typical Indian products as well as unique antiques. It is definitely worth a visit!

There are many other things to do in Kochi. One of the most famous and popular is Ayurveda Massage, with the four hands massage in particular being very relaxing and good for health and wellbeing. In addition, tourists are bound to enjoy the delicious foods on offer, and may like to take a trip in a wooden houseboat.

Visiting Kochi is bound to be enjoyable for anyone travelling for business or pleasure. The most popular time to go is November to March, when the weather is better, although prices are a little higher – but undoubtedly worth it to enjoy Kochi when the weather is clear!
