Fashion design is the applied art dedicated to the design of clothing and lifestyle accessories which generally mirror the cultural and social influences of that time. This includes all designs worn to create a statement about the individual or group of individuals. Hence, fashion technology is an interesting career option that the youth can opt for. If you’ve ever dreamed of a career in fashion, a graduate or professional program in fashion design will help bring your head down out of the clouds and land you on the runway. There’s no magic bullet for building your fashion career, but a combination of your intelligence, passion and solid career training. You should carefully choose a program while considering your career – do you want to be a designer or production manager? Or do fashion merchandising or fashion illustration appeal to you?
I think the most important thing of a good fashion designer is the quality of academic skills and training he has gone through. So it’s very important to have a careful choice while deciding what to study? and where to study? Because an internationally reputed academic training will give the first impression to your employer. Remember, you don’t have a second chance to make a first impression!

There are lots of internationally reputed fashion schools than those mentioned above. I welcome any kind of such fruitful information from your side. But my point of discussion is, make your career training in an internationally reputed institution. After the successful completion of your career training make sure to collaborate the following tips to build a successful fashion designing career.
Networking
This is the most effective means of securing a new position. Recent studies reveal that at least 50% of all jobs are obtained through networking. Send out an email to everyone you know, letting them know you’re hunting. Many companies offer referral bonuses to their employees, which means your friends and acquaintances might be eager to get your resume in front of a recruiter for a fashion house, a large clothing company or a retail chain.
Newspaper Advertising
Newspaper Advertising is a viable source of openings. About 15% of jobs found through newspaper advertising.
Recruiting Organizations
Many companies still rely on Recruiting Organizations exclusively to fill some of their positions. Although this is more common at the executive level, it’s begun to trickle down as the competition for good fashion designers, marketers and merchandisers gets stronger.
The Internet
Internet is a significant player in the job search process. There are an increasing number of candidate and job databases that are facilitating this process.
Direct Mail
With today’s technology, information is readily available on a variety of major corporations in the fashion industry. You can create finely tuned mailings that can effectively tap the hidden job market.

How to get an Internship?
July 1, 2010 by Ronnie Felix
Internship program is a period of supervised training required for qualifying for a profession. It follows a specified number of academic credits or classroom years. Interns are usually college or university students, but they can also be high school students or post graduate adults seeking skills for a new career. An internship may be either paid, unpaid or partially paid. Internships may be part-time or full-time; typically they are part-time during the university year and full-time in the summer, and they typically last 6–12 weeks, but can be shorter or longer. Internship positions are available from businesses, government departments, non-profit groups and organizations. Due to strict labor laws, European internships are mostly unpaid, although they are still popular among non-Europeans in order to gain international exposure on one’s résumé and for foreign language improvement.
Two primary types of internships that exist in the United States are Work experience internship, Research internship or dissertation internship.
Work experience internship will be in the second or third year of the school period. The placement can be from 2 months to sometimes even one full school year. During this period the student is supposed to use the things he/she has learned in school and put it in practice. This way the student gets work experience in their field of study. The gained experience will be helpful to finish up the last year of the study.
Research internship is done by students who are in their last year. With this kind of internship a student does research for a particular company. The company can have something that they feel like they need to improve, or the student can choose a topic within the company themselves. The results of the research study will be put in a report and often will have to be presented.
Fee for Internship
Some companies will find and place students in internships for a fee, such internships are mostly unpaid. In some cases companies charge to assist with a search, promising to refund their fees if no internship is found. Another form of paying for internships is through charity auctions, where a company with an internship will select a charity to get the proceeds of the auction. In some cases, companies have created internships simply to help charities. In the United States, and other countries with down economies, internships have been a form of work for many experienced workers who have been laid off due to budget cuts. This adds another factor into preparing for internships for students- how to make someone who is still in school look better than someone who has been doing the job for years!
Internships by countries.
United States
Many internships in the United States are career specific. Students often choose internships based on their major at the university/college level. It is not uncommon for former interns to acquire full-time employment at an organization once they have enough necessary experience. The challenging job market has made it essential for college students to gain real world experience prior to graduation. Nearly all interns working in the United States must be paid, and at least the minimum wage, for their work in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.
United Kingdom, Canada and Australia
Internships are often referred to as ‘sandwich placements’ in UK , Canada and Australia and are validated work experience opportunity as part of a degree program. University staff gives students access to vacancies and students apply direct to employers. Some universities hold fairs and exhibitions to encourage students to consider the option and to enable students to meet potential employers. In the modern labour market graduates with work experience in the form of sandwich placements are not only deemed more desirable to employers but also research has demonstrated they attain higher level degree classifications than those graduates without such experience.
Spain
At Spanish universities it is uncommon to do an internship during the education period. The real working experience for students starts when they are done with their study. However, Spanish companies are getting more used to having students doing an internship at their company nowadays. Mostly these are international students from other European countries. Spain is a popular country for students to go to for a short period of time to do an internship.
Germany
In Germany there are different kinds of internships as well. As in most other countries, most students take their internship during the fourth or fifth semester of their degree. In some fields of study it is common to write the final thesis in a company. Another type of internship has emerged, the post graduation internship. The high unemployment in Germany during the last years has made it hard for people to find the right job, especially for people that have just graduated and lack work experience.
France
At the French universities it is also most common to do an internship, in France called stage, during the third or fourth year of your studies. The duration of the internships varies from 2 to 6 months, but very seldom longer than that. In France it is also becoming more popular to do an internship after one has finished studying. Mostly for students that did not get the chance to do an internship during their study career, and try to gain some working experience this way.

Insurance

Years back insurance was considered a luxury, then a comfort. But its almost a necessity in the present world. Life is full of risk by all means. None is free from the risk of a natural disaster or a riot or from a terrorist attack. So most people prefer to have a minimum precaution to lighten the disaster they may face in future. Here lies the scope and importance of Insurance. Insurance is a hedging instrument used as a precautionary measure against future contingent losses. This instrument is used for managing the possible risks of the future. This is a mode of financially insuring that if such a incident happens then the loss does not affect the present well-being of the person or the property insured. Thus, through insurance, a person buys security and protection.
Different types of insurance is used to cover different properties and assets such as vehicles, home, health care etc. Basically, an insurance policy can also be known as a protection net which secures you from any financial losses in future. All you have to do is pay the insurance agencies a specified amount every month, known as premium, so that they can take care of you by providing you financial back up in case of a sudden health emergency or a fatal incident.
There are two ways for getting an insurance done.
One way is to visit an agent and consult him for the best option you can avail for your situation. And then, trust him/her for their suggestion on the type of insurance they feel is right for you.
The other way is to research and choose on your own, the type of insurance which will be best suited for your situation. You should research the market as well as the net, to look for the best insurance companies, and further more, the most suitable type of insurance that they offer. Also explore the various types of policies which are available to you in the market, and then compare to decide which one to choose finally.
Health Care Insurance
With such high medical and health care costs these days, it’s hard to even think about visiting a doctor. But what about an unexpected mishap or an unforeseen disability or attack, where the potential medical bills could shoot up to a sky? Where would you get so much money from? These are exactly the situations where you feel you had a security, something which could come to your rescue and save you from such financial crisis. While some companies do provide its employees with health insurance, for others, this is a must. Especially for the aging couples, who have a comparatively more chances of needing emergency bill money. The health insurance does it all, so that they do not have to worry for the huge payments at the last minute. A health insurance can cover all from a routine immunization to a major illness.
Life Insurance
Loss of a family member is a catastrophe which glooms a family’s life. But even more tragic is the death of a sole bread earner for the family, who then has to go through the pain of losing their loved one, as well as the financial loss putting their survival in jeopardy. This financial hardship due to a sudden death of a family member or a disability resulting to a loss of job or inability to work can be avoided to a great extent by taking up a life insurance policy. A Life insurance or disability insurance covers such losses and pays a family, compensation to restore the earnings lost by them due to a sudden death or disability. The monthly premiums for a life insurance are generally based upon the age, health, and occupation information of the applicant, in addition to the total benefits to be paid to him for his policy.
Home Insurance
Real estate property and hard assets are subject to accidental risks like theft, destruction due to natural disasters or fire accidents etc. with such huge investments gone into buying a real estate property like your home or office, the risk involved is a loss of large amount of money. Home and property insurance helps you in managing and protecting against these risks. The cost of a real estate property and its insurance is mostly based upon the worth of the already insured hard assets and also the location in which the assets are situated.
Travel Insurance
This is intended to cover any of the financial or any other losses which were incurred by the insured while traveling, be it nationally or internationally, such as mountain trekkers, cruise travelers etc.
Auto Insurance
Any vehicle on road, no matter how safe its driver is, is bound to meet with an accident or two, which may leave it with just a few scratches, or crash it up totally. Most countries today require you to have an auto insurance while on road in your vehicles.
If you have an accidental car crash, a total repair could cost you a fortune. On the other hand, a little scratch on your Land Cruiser might also soar up your bills to a high. Whether or not you need an auto insurance mostly depends on the type of car you own. If you have an expensive car and a little repair could wipe you out financially, you should very well go in for a buying an all-inclusive and crash insurance which could protect you against any and every harm done to your vehicle.

Discover Your DNA

The move by Pathway Genomics, San Diego, a trendy bio-tech company to sell a genetic test kit through retail outlets that can assess users’ predisposition to various diseases has sparked off a furious debate in America over its ethical and moral dimensions. The company had announced that it would start selling the ‘Spit Kit’ through the nation’s 7,500 Walgreen stores.
Packaged in a box with “Discover Your DNA” imprint, with a stamped envelope enclosed. Spit kit can be mailed back to company. Customers can then go to the Pathways website to order specific tests and pay the required fees. They can also get the results via the Web.
Using the $20-$30 ‘Spit Kit’, customers can mail a dab of their sputum to labs for tests that will examine DNA variations to determine their risk of getting heart disease, diabetes, various forms of cancer, besides their reaction to common drugs. Depending on the range and depth of information, the tests will cost up to $300. This idea of Pathway Genomics is not a new one. Personal genomics companies have been around for around three years. But by going retail Pathway hope to become the front-runners in this field.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has not approved or validated the test kit and ethicists are also concerned. They say learning about predisposed diseases will raise moral issues relating to marriage, childbirth, inheritance, and even business and professional decisions. Medical insurance companies and the clergy are yet to pitch in. Pathway, on its part, says FDA clearance is not necessary to sell the Spit Kit, because, it insists, the tests are not intended for use in diagnosis, treatment or for the mitigation or cure of a disease. Anyway let’s wait some days to evaluate the actual result and feedback to Pathway’s revolutionary initiative.
